The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has appealed to the Tonse administration not to impose the mandatory covid-19 vaccination on its citizens.
This comes a few days after the Health Ministry announced that from January 2022 the covid-19 vaccination would be mandatory on public service providers including teachers, journalists and soldiers.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe, on Tuesday, CDEDI executive director, Sylvester Namiwa said they strongly believed that Malawians have the right to choose whether or not to get vaccinated and what the government was doing was a clear a violation of human rights as well as the employment act.
Namiwa further urged the stakeholders that the fight against covid-19 should not overshadow the fight against other diseases including malaria and HIV and AIDS.
