The office of the Attorney General has billed the opposition Democratic Progressive (DPP) Party K200 000 000 (Two hundred Million Kwacha) as legal fees in the 2020 fresh presidential election case.

On 11 October, the High Court in Blantyre, sitting as a Constitutional Court dismissed with costs a case in which the opposition DPP was asking the court to nullify the June 23 2020 court sanctioned election in which President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice-President Saulos Chilima were declared winners.

Speaking to the press Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda said his office has made an assessment which arrived at the amount considering the time spent at the court , materials used during the case and expenses which were incurred which includes accommodation transport and food.

He said the amount is not open for discussion because it is the money that was spent.
