President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has unveiled a K500 billion Socio-Economic Recovery Plan (SERP), to run from 2021 – 2023, to stimulate strategic parts of the economy with various interventions that would ensure that the country is on course with the Malawi 2063 first 10 year implementation plan.
President Chakwera unveiled this Tuesday evening at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe in his National Address.
He called upon all stakeholders to rally behind the plan for it’s successful implementation.
“The success of this recovery plan depends on all of us; government, non state actors, development partners. I’m confident that each one of us will do our part,” he said.
He expressed concern that the country’s economy is bleeding from wounds of structural limitations, gross imbalance between imports and exports, the Covid-19 pandemic and government waste.
As one of the measures to deal with government waste, the President has ordered all ministries to review plans for local and international travel during the 2021 – 2023 recovery period as well as plans for procurement of new vehicles.
