A Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey has found that 60 percent of water sources in Malawi is contaminated.
Delivering her remarks during the launch of the survey findings in Lilongwe, Commissioner of Statistics, Mercy Kanyuka, at least 93 percent of households use contaminated water.
“What is unique with this survey is that we did not only ask people where they get their water from but we also tested the water”, said Kanyuka.
Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda presided over the launch of the survey and said the findings have come at the right time for the government to take appropriate action.
Among other issues, the report indicates that Malawi is making significant progress on 29 of the 169 SDG targets currently standing at 17 percent.
The Minister however called on everyone to take an active role in the implementation and realisation of a better Malawi for everyone.
