Over sixty people have been arrested in Mzuzu for crimes ranging from operating a liquor business without a license,theft by trick possession of cannabis sativa and  contravening COVID-19 preventive measures.

On Thursday,officers from Mzuzu police stormed drinking joints around the city and arrested people that were found loitering while others were drinking outside the set drinking time of 1400hrs and 2200hrs.

Confirming the development, Paul Tembo Mzuzu police publicist said the exercise has been done to get rid of suspected criminals from the streets as the festive season looms.

He says this is one of the many ways of ensuring safety of lives and property in the city during and after the festive season.

According to Tembo the arrested will appear before the court of law today.
