Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) Wednesday handed over Wadikanga Health Post to Mangochi District Council which was constructed with over K60 million to serve a population of 7,875 from Mangochi and Machinga districts.
Deputy Director for Preventive Health responsible for Community Health, Doreen Ali, commended MRCS for complimenting government efforts in improving health delivery system in the country as it plans to construct 900 health posts across Malawi.
“To have the health post here is a good development,” she said after observing that people, including expectant mothers in the area walk long distances to access health services.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, MRCS President, Innocent Majiya assured government that the society will continue complimenting government efforts by constructing more health posts in the countrys hard-to-reach areas.
With support from a consortium of Danish, Finish Icelandic and Italian Red Cross Societies, the MRCS also built a staff house and toilets for both men and women, incinerator and sunk a borehole at the Wadikanga Health Post.
