President Lazarus Chakwera has pledged K10 million to bail out University of Malawi (UNIMA) needy students who were on the verge of voluntary withdrawal from their academic studies.

Reports indicate Chakwera met the UNIMA Students Representative Council at Chikoko Bay State Residence in Mangochi on Tuesday.

The Council’s President Charles Dokera has confirmed the development; saying the meeting shows political will to address the plight of needy students.

Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda said the Malawi leader is committed to promoting education for national development hence his sparing of time to listen to the students’ concerns.

In September this year, over 400 students almost withdrew from their academic studies due to financial constraints.
