A cold war between the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Tonse Alliance of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera seem to be far from over as the latter has taken advantage of the death of former first lady Anne Muluzi to attack Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Paying tribute to Annie Muluzi, ex-wife to former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi, the opposition DPP said late Annie Muluzi played vital role in the struggle for multiparty democracy.
“We remember how she worked hard behind the scenes and personally suffered during numerous interrogations, arrests and other forms of persecution by the Malawi Congress Party regime. She was instrumental and inspirational to all Malawians towards our struggle for the attainment of multiparty democracy and pluralism.
“At one point, she was temporarily detained instead of Dr. Bakili Muluzi by police following a directive from the then autocratic one party President that he should be arrested at a rally in Balaka,” reads the statement in part.
DPP’s statement on Anne’s death has angered some quarters of the society and some even took to social media to trash the party.
Memori Odala wrote: “Dpp is full of evil people maliro siku court inu those issues can best be handled by other institutions.”
Concurring with Odala’s remarks Dalitso Banda wrote: “Why politicizing death of somebody? This party will never learn from it’s past mistakes.”
Another concerned citizen identified as James Watson said: “What a stupid and senseless eulogy…the fact still remains that you are in still oppostion even after releasing such as nasty eulogy…”
