Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has described the ending 2021 as a year of broken promises for the Tonse Alliance-led administration.
In a statement which the Coalition has released, the coalition accompanied Malawians in paying close attention and registered concerns with the slow pace, lack of boldness, indecisiveness and lack of harmony in Tonse Alliance.
“Tonse Alliance President Lazarus Chakwera’s inability to demonstrate assertiveness and decisively act on matters of national concern is creating a murky outlook of the governance situation in Malawi. Inefficiency in the public sector remains at its worst,” reads part of the statement.
The statement further said that, Malawians have already started doubting if Tonse alliance will be able to deliver all the promises that it made during campaign period.
“It is not surprising that by now the majority of Malawians, who voted for President Chakwera into power, have quickly begun to doubt the ability of the current leadership to deliver the promised Canaan,” reads the statement in part.”
Finally, the coalition pointed out corruption as one of the issues that has not been addressed since Tonse took control of the government.
“Corruption is still rife.”
