Police in Blantyre have arrested three suspects in connection to a spate of armed robbery targeting motorcycle operators in the township.
Ndirande Police Spokesperson, Sergent Kelvin Nyirenda has told the press that following a tip last evening, police arrested two suspects Kelvin Swaibu, 26, and Amos Shaibu, 21 who hired a motorcycle from Mbayani to Ndirande Township with an intent of robbing the motorcycle operator.
Nyirenda said upon reaching Nyambadwe area, the two suspects spread pepper into the motorcyclist’s eyes who immediately fell down due to blurred vision. However, the motorist managed to hit one suspect with a stone who fell down as the other was trying to flee from the scene with the motorcycle.
Upon hearing screams, officers from Ndirande Police arrived at the scene and arrested the fallen suspect and the other who tried to escape.
Meanwhile, police have recovered other two motorcycles and arrested one more suspect Isaac Nazambo, 25, from Chelewani Village, Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu.
Kelvin Swaibu hails from Hawirani Village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu and Amos Shaibu comes from Chikweo Village, Traditional Authority Mkoola in Machinga.
