A woman from Michigan, US was forced to spend five hours in a toilet after she tested positive for covid-19.
Marissa Fotieo, a school teacher, was on a plane from Chicago to Reykjavik, in Iceland, on 20 December when she felt her throat hurt.
She decided to test herself for Covid-19 with a rapid test that she had brought along during the journey and the test turned out positive.
At that instance, she remained in the toilet for the rest of the journey but a flight attendant provided her with food and drinks.
It was a crazy experience. [There were] 150 people on the flight, and my biggest fear was giving it to them,” Fotieo said in an interview with NBC News.
She praised the flight attendant for supporting her throughout the journey.
“She made sure I had everything I needed for the next five hours from food to drinks and constantly checked on me assuring me I would be all right,” she told NBC.
Upon arriving in Iceland, Fotieo was isolated in a Redcross hotel. She is however fully vaccinated and even received a booster shot.
Marissa’s ordeal came amid the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, which continues to fuel a surge in cases across the US. Studies suggest this variant of the virus is milder than others but more transmissible.
