Political commentator, Humphreys Mvula said running a political party as a family entity is disastrous and it can lead to its downfall and loss in popularity.

Mvula made the remarks in relation to Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) in-fighting over the alleged usage of a picture of the party’s founder, late Bingu wa Mutharika by party presidential hopeful, Kondwani Nankhumwa on a poster.

Former President of Malawi and President of DPP, Professor Arthur Peter Muthalika, asked one of the aspirant to the DPP Presidency to stop using a poster of himself with the face of the late Professor Bingu Wa Muthalika on it.

Professor Muthalika said that what has happened is total disrespect to the late Muthalika and as President of the DPP and head of the Muthalika family, he is distressed by such exploitation of their departed relative.

“It has come to my attention that one individual who apparently is an aspirant to the DPP Presidency has posted a poster in which he has put the face of the former President of the party Professor Bingu Wa Muthalika,” reads the statement.

It further highlighted that the purpose of such callous action is to give the impression that the late Bingu would have endorsed such individual’s candidacy.

“I am therefore asking the individual concerned to withdraw this poster and never post another one,” It reads.

“On behalf of my family, i am asking this individual to respect Bingu’s soul and to let him Rest In Peace,” the statement concludes.

Meanwhile, Nankhumwa is yet to comment on the matter.
