Two men are in Police custody for alleged pockets of robberies in two separate places in Mulanje.
The duo are identified as Ndasalapati Naitha, 38, and Peter Mchenga, 42.
Inspector Rodrick Maida, Public Relations Officer, South East Region Police said the incidents occurred in the dusks of December 23, 2021 at Khoviwa village and December 31, 2021 at Ndala village respectively.
Maida explained there are reports that the duo, whilst armed with a short gun robbed a shop of Damiano Manjolo and went away with K430,000.00 cash, 20 packets of flip-flops and 50 pieces of wrapped cloth.
“As if that was not enough, in the dusk of December 31, 2021 whilst armed with same short gun, they robbed Enock Msende of a pedal bicycle and Techno Spark 4 cellphone.”
Enquiries were instituted after complaints and through tips from the public, Mulanje Police Detectives arrested both suspects and also managed to recover a stolen cellphone from first suspect as well as a short gun from second suspect.
The gun is believed to have been bought from unknown person in Mozambique sometime back.
The suspects will appear before court after completion of paperwork.
Ndasalapati Naitha come from Mangani village while Peter Mchenga, 42 comes from Njema village, both from Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje.a
