The body of former first lady, Anne Chidzira Muluzi, has been laid to rest with military honours at Masula Village in Lilongwe.
She died in Kenya on Tuesday last week while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi in Kenya.
People who attended the funeral include President Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera, Vice-President Saulos Chilima, George Chaponda who represented Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika, former first ladies Gertrude Mutharika and Callista Mutharika, and the clergy from different denominations.
Church service was led by Nkhoma Synod of the Church to Central Africa Presbytery (CCAP).
Speaking on behalf of the State President, Deputy Minister of Defense, Jean Sendeza, said that Anne was a symbol of strength and unity.
She said: “Here we are people of different interests, religiously and politically. We are gathered here with one purpose of seeing off the former first lady Anne Muluzi. This is unity and is what the State President is asking from all of us.”
In his eulogy representing the Masula Family, Bintoni Kumtsaira said Former First Lady, Anne Muluzi, was the pillar of the Malingunde area , as she supported the needy in different ways.
He commended government for support provided to Anne Muluzi when accessing medical treatment.
And representing the Muluzi Family, Tailos Bakili, said the Former First Lady was a good mother and the pillar of the family.
On behalf of Former First Ladies, Former First Lady, Callister Mutharika, said the Late Muluzi, lived an exemplary life and was an inspiration to many.
On his part, Paramount Chief Kawinga said that Former First Lady, Anne Muluzi, was supportive to Former President, Bakili Muluzi, not only on the political scene, but also at family level.
The Traditional leader commended the Former First Lady’s son, Atupele , for support provided to Anne Muluzi, during her sickness.
Anne Chadzira Muluzi died at the age of 69.
