Communities at Kabuwa in Traditional Authority Khosolo in Mzimba have requested Member of Parliament (MP) for Mzimba South East Constituency, Ackson Kalaile Banda, to assist in constructing a school block at Kambulaudzu Primary School.
The school has 296 learners; five qualified teachers; two auxiliary teachers, and only one unfinished classroom block which caters for all the learners when it rains.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency, Chairperson for the school’s Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA), Moses Fote, said the unfinished classroom block was built by Action Aid Malawi through Kabuwa Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2007.
“We only have one school block. Some learners use a church as a makeshift classroom. We have reported the issue to several duty bearers, including the Primary Education Advisor of the area, but nothing is done to address the situation,” Fote said.
Commenting on the matter, Banda said he is aware of the challenge at the school and pledged to support the community in building a better classroom block.
