Police have disclosed reasons for arresting social media activist Joshua Chisa Mbele.

National police spokesperson James Kadadzera has told us that Mbele has been arrested for posting information deemed defamatory, without indicating the complainant.

He says that Mbele is currently at Lumbadzi police Station.

However, the arrest came hours after Mbele, posted on social media, an unauthenticated document with names of top government officials. The document purported that those on the list were people who may have benefitted from proceeds of corruption involving controversial businessman Zunneth Sattar.

Mbele later retracted the post and the document confessing he may have been misinformed and misled.
