Atupele Muluzi, son to former Malawi president Bakili Muluzi, has announced through a Facebook post that the Muluzi family will construct a cancer ward at one of the central hospitals in the country in honour of late Anne Muluzi who died on 28 December, 2021 while receiving treatment in Nairobi, Kenya.

The young Muluzi said the ward will be named the “Anne Muluzi Cancer Ward” dedicated to provide a serene environment and ambience of graceful comfort and care to cancer patients in honour of the first lady.

“We understand that there are so many people in Malawi suffering from cancer and we intend to contribute to establishing an in-patient facility specifically designed to make cancer patients stay and care as comfortable as possible for the patient and loved ones,” wrote Muluzi.

Anne Muluzi was the first woman to hold the title of “first lady” in Malawi.
