Police Nab 20 Fake Passengers

Lilongwe Police has arrested 20 people for allegedly posing as passengers to hook bonafide passengers into one of the buses at Lilongwe Bus Depot.

Deputy spokesperson, Foster Benjamin said they rounded up the fake passengers widely known as ojiya or athaiming’i during a special police operation.

He added they acted on people’s complaints that they were waiting for many hours due to the fake passengers who gave them a false impression that the bus was almost full to capacity.

The suspects have been charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace, contrary to Section 181 of the Penal code.
