Information reaching this publication indicates that all police officers at Bvumbwe Police Unit have been transferred after angry community members set alight the facility following a fracas that led to the death of two people after police fired live ammunition last week..

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed the development saying they have closed the police unit and transferred all the officers.

Kadadzera said in the meantime, the area will be under Blantyre patrol since there is need to construct new offices.

The development did not please social commentator Caesar Kondowe who said  Bvumbe is one of the fast growing areas as such people need to be protected.

“it unfortunate that the police unit has been closed considering that Bvumbwe is a fast growing area and a transit of goods from Blantyre and bordering district of Mulanje which needs uninterrupted security,” he said.
