NIGERIA – A police officer has reportedly been stabbed to death by a suspect at the Nyamebekyere Police station, Berekum in the Bono Region.
According to reports, the deceased officer was on duty when he had a complaint from one Yaw Amankoma about the offensive actions of the suspect.
When the police officer arrived at the front of the police station to arrest the suspect, the suspect, who was equipped with a knife hidden in his pocket, attacked and stabbed the officer in the neck and other parts of the body badly.
The officer was rushed to Holy Family Hospital for treatment, but he died soon after being admitted.
A manhunt was begun around the Berekum township to find the suspect, and when he was discovered at his hiding in Komfuokrom, a Berekum suburb, he attacked and attempted to stab the arresting officers with the knife once more.
The suspect was shot after the police officers’ efforts to disarm him failed. He was rushed to the Holy Family hospital for medical attention but unfortunately died on arrival.
Both bodies are deposited at the same Hospital Mortuary for preservation. The exhibit Okapi knife is retained for evidential purposes.
