Lilongwe Hills and Associates Limited has gifted Flames’ goalkeeper Charles Thom a 15m x 30m plot following his outstanding performance against Senegal yesterday in Cameroon at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It is the same company that also gave Flames’ midfielder Gabadinho Mhango a 20m x 30m plot after he was also named as the man of match during Malawi – Zimbabwe game in which he scored two goals.

Responding to critics on why the company is giving out gifts to only a single player instead of the whole team, the company’s marketing manager Brian Chikuse said they believe in merit hence a decision to reward players based on their exceptional performance.

“The company believes in merit. It is on this background that we are rewarding the exceptional performance by the goal keeper.  Last time we gifted Gaba with a Plot. This was done not because he scored, but rather due to his exceptional play,” Chikuse said.

He added; “This time around, Charles Thom’s performance was excellent and our congratulations doesn’t come by only word of mouth but through rewards as well.  The whole team played well, and the goal keeper’s performance was exceptional. CAF rewarded him as man of the match, and we reward him with a plot.”

In a goalless draw, Malawi faced the all star-studded Senegal (Lions of Teranga) at Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam in Cameroon.

Thom was awarded as man of the march for defending Flames very well.
