Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s government officials in Lira city have banned female market traders from seating at the front seats of tractors in a bid to avoid many road accidents.

The decision came in the wake of an accident that killed nine people and badly injured 19 others one week ago at Lira District in Agali Sub-county.

According to a local publication, the accident occurred after a Fuso truck transporting traders and their merchandise got involved in an accident at Pii-awac swamp, seven kilometers east of Lira City.

The badly damaged vehicle was returning to Lira City from Ajuri market located in Abako sub-county, Alebtong district when the unfortunate incident happened.

Police officers around the area were blamed for overloading, overspeeding, and driving recklessly in the utter abandonment of the law.

Most importantly, numerous accidents in the Lango sub county were directly attributed to female market vendors especially those that occupy the front seats while their juicy thighs remain exposed for the sexually starved drivers to admire.

The women passengers are said to be always putting on mini-skirts exposing their nakedness with the intention of seducing the weak sons of Adam, leading to fatal road accidents.

Strangely, some of these women intentionally dress inappropriately then demand to sit at the co-driver’s seat. This was revealed by the chairman of Lira City Mobile Market Vendors Association Mr. Patrick Opio Obote.

Funnily, most of these youthful daughters of Eve normally claim in self-defense that they cannot sit behind these trucks because the roads are just too dusty which can make them dirty and unattractive when they alight.

“To reduce accidents, we have resolved that with effect from Monday, January 17, no woman shall be allowed to sit in front of any truck transporting traders from Lira City to any weekly markets,” he said.

One female market vendor also confessed that she has seen most of the women she knows literally fighting with each other just to sit in front of the truck cabins with the drivers beside them. If you are familiar with trucks, then you must have known by now that they normally have beds at the front cabin just behind the seats. No wonder these women in mini skirts use all the avenues just to have “peace of mind” in front.

“These women always wear short dresses. Whenever they reach their destination at the weekly markets in the villages, they take the drivers away to the local bars where they offer them drinks and food,” she said.

One Mr. Tom Adila who is the chairperson of trucks in Lira city complained that the majority of the truck owners employ unqualified truck drivers since a good number of them are not only undisciplined but also don’t abide by the law.

“They mostly employ their relatives in a bid to minimize the costs they would spend on paying qualified drivers,” Mr. Adila said.

As a result, the spokesperson for Lira Urban Transporters Association, Mr. Bernard Anyeko Matsanga, confirmed that the implementation of this order barring women from seating in front of trucks would commence with immediate effect.

“No woman is allowed to sit in front of the driver, even if you are the wife of the owner of the vehicle, we are not allowing you. Drivers are obeying all the directives and none of them is overloading or speeding. They are driving at normal speed,” Mr. Anyeko said while speaking to the Daily Monitor earlier this week.

To make matters worse, the deputy director of Traffic and Road Safety, Mr. Phillip Acaye, disclosed that the accident statistics recorded during the 2021 Christmas holiday season between December 23 and December 25, and from December 31 to January 2 this year, placed North Kyoga region second with regards to the number of accidents.

Consequently, he ordered all the police officers in that section of Uganda to arrest any driver that breaks the law by carrying these young women in front of their trucks. He further revealed that CCTV cameras would be placed in key spots just to monitor the behaviors of the truck drivers and the women.
