There was a commotion at St Paul CCAP church in Chiwembe Blantyre, as congregants tussled with police protesting the forceful transfer of a resident preacher Reverend Maxwell Mbewe from the church following a Blantyre Synod direction.

According to one of the church elders Albert Chikoja , the synod wrote the church in December 2021, expressing its intention to transfer the pastor, but the church leadership had expressed reservations to allow the pastor to stay.

Chikoja said the synod did not respond to their position until today when they sent police to remove him, and this did not please some church members who blocked the police.

Meanwhile some Blantyre synod authorities and the church elders are locked up in a meeting to resolve the disagreement.
