Barely hours after Civil Rights Activists demanded a public declaration by President Lazarus Chakwera to stand with Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Czar Martha Chizuma, Chakwera acted accordingly.

In a joint press statement, the human rights advocates gave Chakwera 48 hours to make a public declaration that he stands with Chizuma amid leakage of a phone call conversation with unknown individual.

The activists threatened to hold a solidarity march with Chizuma if Chakwera fails to make the declaration.

Yesterday, during a nation address Chakwera publicly declared his support to the ACB boss.

“I am therefore hopeful that the good name of this warrior for justice will be cleared, because until she is independently found to be I the wrong, I stand with Martha,” said Chakwera.

The audio leakage attracted different criticisms from the public some demanding her apology for break secrecy oath and the majority stood with her.

Among others, United Democratic Front leader Atupele Muluzi, Mary Navicha, Member of Parliament and Kondwani Nankhumwa, the leader of opposition showed their support to the ACB Czar.

In his speech last night, President Chakwera made it clear that he will not fire Chizuma as it was the expectation of some people who tricked her and leaked the phone call conversation.

However, Chakwera has sent a stern warning to Chizuma and challenged her to be more careful when it comes to work affairs.
