The Malawi Law Society (MLS) has hailed the decision by President Lazarus Chakwera to maintain Martha Chizuma as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General.
On Monday, President Chakwera said that he will not fire Chizuma after she was caught up in a compromised situation following a leakage of an audio clip in which she was discussing work related issues to unidentified individual.
Chakwera then, sent a strong warning to the ACB Czar to be extra careful with her job adding that he trusts her and that she is one of the useful people in his administration to fight corruption.
However, MLS honorary secretary Chrispin Ngunde has cautioned the President to focus on taming corruption as opposed to focusing on the leaked audio clip whose contents are not that critical.
Also weighing in his view on the matter is lawyer Sylvester Ayuba James who fears that Chakwera’s stern warning would likely unsettle Chizuma’s zeal to fight corruption in the country.
Spokesperson for the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) Gilford Matoga says the quasi-religious body is supporting the step taken by Chakwera on the matter.
