Activist cum Politician Bon Kalindo will wait until Monday next week to hear a ruling on his bail application.

He is expected to remain at Maula Prison until the day of his bail ruling set by Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana.

In the bail application, the State told the court that Kalindo should be remanded to Maula for 7 days as they are not yet done with investigations.

The State also said this is to prevent Kalindo from committing further offenses as he is already on bail over two cases he is answering in other courts.

They further argued that Kalindo’s offense is a serious one saying if found guilty one is fined k5 million kwacha and 10 years imprisonment.

But Gilbert Khonyongwa Kalindo’s lawyer has argued that the police were supposed to conclude the investigations before effecting the arrest.

He further argued that Kalindo is a Malawian who resides in the house with his family and that he is a human rights activist.

He said, remanding Kalindo for 7 days for an accusation that he tampered with an electricity meter would not be in the interest of justice.

Khonyongwa, said the state has not indicated in their arguments that the accused is a flight risk and therefore there should be no reason to deny him his freedom to bail.

Kalindo who is yet to spend more nights in custody was arrested on Tuesday for an alleged illegal electricity connection in Area 25 Lilongwe.

On Wednesday, law enforcers failed to take him before the court due to a lack of a charge sheet.
