President Lazarus Chakwera has broken hearts of rights advocates, opposition and other stakeholders for not appointing a lean cabinet as requested instead he has come up with a 29 member cabinet in his new composition.
On Monday, after Chakwera dissolved his entire cabinet, the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Human Rights Defenders Coalition, Public Affairs Committee and Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) asked him to consider naming a lean cabinet.
However Chakwera has 21 full ministers and 8 deputies totaling to 29 cabinet Ministers him and his vice who are automatically in the cabinet by election summing up to 31.
Stakeholders are yet to comment on the matter.
However, Chakwera has upheld the gender card, but scored poorly on regional representation.
The biggest casualties are Felix Mlusu who Minister of Finance, Ulemu Msungama, responsible for Sports and Youth, Rashid Gaffar and Roy Kachale.
