Just hours after President Lazarus Chakwera released his cabinet, Malawians are questioning the role of Timothy Mtambo’s Ministry of National Unity as they are arguing that since its existence it has done nothing.

After Chakwera dissolved his cabinet on Monday, a number of Malawians expected not to see the former human rights defender in the newly constituted cabinet.

To the surprise of many, Mtambo has been reappointed on the same a development which has attracted different opinion.

One Z Allan Ntata asked what has Mtambo and his ministry done in the last two years he has been the minister.

“We have had a minister for national unity for 2 years now. What has he achieved? Are we more united?” asked Ntata.

Another one Bartholomew Kawina Boaz said “the country is already united, why having Minister of National Unity.”

Since his appointment, Mtambo has been receiving backlash from the members of the general public whom in their view he is there for helping the current government to ascend into power.
