Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera has said he is expecting his newly appointed ministers to work accountably regardless of political party they belong to.
Chakwera was speaking yesterday At Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during the swearing in ceremony of Ministers.
The president plainly told the Ministers that it is him who appointed them thus they should be reporting to him.
“I expect my Cabinet to work accountably. Whether you belong to Malawi Congress Party, UTM or Peoples Party, or any other parties in the Tonse Alliance, you must remember that it is I who appointed you and it is to me that you report,” Chakwera said.
He went further telling the Ministers that their appointment is not influenced by anyone.
“Do not become presumptuous and imagine that your appointment is attributed to someone else,” stressed Chakwera.
He then called on the Ministers to ensure that they report to him regularly and timely to his office on the progress they are making.
“And I expect those reports to be presented to me directly and for me to be the one that directs you on whether any contents in your reports should be shared with anyone else,” said Chakwera.
The president’s remarks have left Malawians wondering where his vice Saulos Chilima is placed at as he had promised earlier that he will always include him in decision making.
