The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) says broadcasters are owing it about K700 million in license fees, attributing the development to lack of finance management skills among most licensees.

MACRA Board Member, Stella Chuthi, said their broadcasting section is in talks with the broadcasters in an attempt to have the money paid.

“The money collected from the licenses are used for our projects and the nonpayment of the fees affects our operations,” she says.

The Authority is today engaging the broadcasters at the financial management and governance workshop in Blantyre.
