Information from Guinean press says that, majority of the players of the National team did not return to the country after failing to qualify for the round of 16 in the African Cup of Nations.
According to the press reports, colonel Doumbouya who was not happy, gave a follow-up instruction.
“The Council was informed of the return of the national Sily early this morning. The President of the Transition deplored that the Guinean delegation returned to the country with only three players. He instructed the Minister of Sports to reflect on a better organization of sports and particularly football with the detection, support and training of young talents in our country,” the report says.
The new arrangements according to tfynews seek to change the way players are selected for the team, moving towards a more local recruitment.
Meanwhile, the military President of Guinea Conakry, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya was reported earlier to have forgiven the National team after dropping out of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
It would be remembered that, before the departure of the National Elephants to Cameroon, the president held a tight meeting with the team and gave them his final words. Colonel Doumbouya told them to win or refund the state funds. “The cup, or you reimburse the money that’s been invested in you,” he said.
However, upon return, Doumbouya congratulated the team (those who returned) for their performance; revealing that, the earlier tough statement was just to push them to strive harder.
He however, demanded a partial refunded of the money allocated to the team.
According to him, the money given to the team covered Quarterfinals, Semi-final and final games and that must be returned to the state coffers as soon as possible.
