Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and wife, Mary Bushiri, yesterday started what they call a ‘complete package’ response to disasters by reaching out to 4000 households with relief and rehabilitation items.

According to Prophet Bushiri, the complete package entails not just helping the households with relief items such as food materials, temporal shelter and sanitation facilities; but also supporting the victims with capacity to help them repair and rebuild their homes when the ground gets dry.

Prophet Bushiri was on Thursday at Chambe School in Traditional Authority Nkanda in Mulanje where he donated relief items to over 2000 households affected by disasters in the district. Each household 10 packets soya pieces, 25kg bag of maize, packets of sugar, plastic sheets for roofing and plastic buckets.

“In the past three days, my wife and I have visited several camps where the victims are being sheltered and we have, with our own eyes, seen the great devastation of houses, crops and properties. We have a serious challenge.

“Because of this, we felt though comforting them with prayer is important, these people need to eat, they need somewhere safe to sleep and above all, they need our help, to return to their normal lives,” he said.

On Friday, the Prophet will be in Thyolo District where over 2000 households will also be reached.

Prophet Bushiri said his plan is to ensure that the targeted 2000 households get constant relief items so they don’t go hungry and are safe; adding that, when the ground gets dry, he will also help the targeted 2000 households to repair their damaged homes and, for those whose houses got washed away, he will help them construct new ones.

“Our people are leaving in destitution. We will give them food and all other immediate necessities needed. But we can’t leave them there. Most of the households at the camp have their damaged and some washed away. I will help them to repair their homes and, where necessary, build new ones,” said Prophet Bushiri.

The ECG leader has since called on all Malawians to help disasters victims in the country.
