Minister of Labour Vera Kamtukule has defended recent figures stated by President Lazarus Chakwera that over 900, 000 thousand jobs have been created in the last 2 years.

Last week, while presenting State of National Address (SONA) Chakwera said his government has managed to create over 900, 000 jobs over past 2 years

The statement sparked debate among Malawians on whether the figures are a representation on the ground or not.

During a media briefing together with the minister of information, Kamtukule said the jobs have been highly created through the Affordable Inputs Program (AIP) and National Economic Empowerment (NEEF).

She said that both the public and private sector continue creating opportunities for people.

She added the country has taken a right path to meet the one million target.
