Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa has said he is interested to know who gave President Lazarus Chakwera the statistics that the economy has created 997,423 jobs.

He claimed that the statistics have angered Malawians as evidenced by reactions from Malawians to a certain radio phone-in programme where they expressed ignorance of where the jobs created are.

According to Nankhumwa, Chakwera told the BBC around June last year that about 600,000 people had lost their jobs and that it was shocking to hear the President talking about creating 997,423 jobs seven months later.

Meanwhile, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda has expressed concern with the words Nankhumwa used in describing President Chakwera.

According to Chimwendo Banda, Nankhumwa has described Chakwera as a ‘liar and a broken’ system.

Chimwendo Banda asked Speaker of Parliament to rule Nankhumwa out of order.

In his response, Nankhumwa agreed to withdraw the word liar and replaced it with Chakwera did not say the truth.
