Conjoined twins Joshua and James Tembo have been discharged from the University Teaching Hospital-UTH and have gone back to their home in Kunda Village of Kasenengwa District in Eastern Province.
Head of Clinical Care Professor Mulindi Mwanahamuntu has told Diamond News that the infants are in good health and the officer who has accompanied the family does not expect to encounter a problem along the journey.
Professor Mwanahamuntu said Chipata General Hospital staff will takeover from UTH in monitoring the growth of the twins.
Though they are in good health, their physiology will further complicate the welfare of the infants that will grow in a rural area whose family cannot afford to cater their special needs.
Recently doctors’ findings on the condition of the twins revealed that they share the abdomen (stomach and pelvis) hence the risk of separating them would likely result in death of one of them.
The revelation compelled the parents to reject the complex surgery on the babies who were born last June and spent almost seven months in UTH.
