Police in Mwanza are keeping in custody five people alleged to have stolen from some trucks that were involved in an accident at Laundi area last month.
Deputy Police Spokesperson for Mwanza, Sergeant Hope Kasakula, has identified the five as Paul Clifford 40, Grace Daniel 33, John Divason 14, Flora Luka 21 and Cedric Kasalika 38.
Kasakula says after the accident at Laundi Area along M6 Road, rampant theft was the order of the day. Mwanza Police embarked on an intensive sweeping exercise to catch the hooligans that usually steal from trucks involved in accidents along the stretch.
He says Mwanza Police have managed to recover some of the stolen items which include 8 Bags of salt, 17 bags of fertilizer, one tarpaulin, 12 chairs, one 42 inch plasma screen, 2 plastic containers containing medicine, an axe, a shovel and two hoes.
Kasakula says the five will appear in court soon to answer various charges.
The suspects hail from Moffati village, T/A Kanduku in the same district.
