A person has been killed by an elephant in Machinga after the wild animal broke out of Liwonde National Park early this morning.
Police are yet to comment on the matter.
However, Community Extension Manager for Liwonde National Park, Mathias Kachepa Elisa has confirmed of the development
According to Elisa, the deceased, Suwaleyi Mtitipila of T/A Sitola in the district, met his fate around 5 am.
Elisa says the elephant that escaped the park using Shire River stream is still at large as rangers have been deployed to control the situation.
He has however warned people around the park to desist from any attempts to deal with the raging elephant.
