President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi has described the late Alinafe Bonongwe as a warrior for justice in our nation’s war against corruption.

The President said this through a message he has released addressed to the general public.

“The brazen killing of Alinafe Bonongwe, who was Malawi Revenue Authority’s Station Manager at Dedza Border post, is a heartbreaking and colossal loss to Malawi,” The President said.

He said despite receiving death threats for standing up to lawless and corrupt cartels that have long been marauding our borders, Bonongwe remained resolute and fearless in his defense of our national treasures.

“Mr. Bonongwe has died a hero, and his sacrifice for Malawi will not be in vain, for it gives all of us fresh inspiration to press on with our quest for a new Malawi free of corruption,” President Chakwera added.

He has therefore warned those criminals behind his death that the Authorities will never relent in pursuing them until they are brought to Justice.

“Long it takes and whatever it costs we shall prevail,” Chakwera said.

Earlier this week, Malawi Police confirmed that five people were arrested for being suspected to have killed Mr. Bonongwe after postmortem results revealed that he was murdered.

Bonongwe will be laid to rest on Sunday, 13th February 2022 at his home village Kapanga 1, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.

He was born on 23rd May 1979.
