The donation follows recent declaration of state of disaster and an appeal for help by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Speaking in an interview with the press after the donation IAM representative MacDonald Chibwe who is also Chief Operations Officer (CEO) for United General Insurance said the association was touched with an appeal for help by President Chakwera hence the donation.

“After hearing a plea for help by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as an association we thought it wise to come in and help as some of the affected families are our clients.

“Though the items are not tallying with the number of people being hosted here at Malemia Camp, we hope that the relief items will help to save lives. We are also appealing to the victims to share with those who will not receive the items,” said Chibwe.

He then appealed to other well-wishers in the country to join the President assisting the flood victims in the country.

On his part Stephanos Foundation Executive Director Clifford Kuyokwa hailed IAM for trusting the organization in reaching out to flood victims in Chikwawa.

“Stephanos Foundation is here today in conjunction with Insurance Association of Malawi (IAM) donating assorted items to flood victims. IAM saw what we are doing as an organization in assisting flood victims in different camps hence the partnership.

“We don’t take this for granted but it’s an honour to us,” said Kuyokwa while appealing for more support from the corporate world.

One of the beneficiaries Victoria Waya thanked IAM and Stephanos Foundation for the timely donation.

Some of the items donated included 400 bags of 25 kg maize flour, 32 bales of Soya pieces, 400 liters of cooking oil and assorted clothes.

Chikwawa district has 92 relief camps.
