Member of Parliament for Machinga East asked President Lazarus Chakwera during questions answering session in parliament whether summoning Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma to State House does not constitute interfering with the independence of the bureau which reports to Parliament.

In his response, Chakwera said he believes such an act is necessary in the spirit of working together to fight corruption.

He added that much as Parliament can summon the ACB on various issues, the President also as the right to invite heads of various public institutions to understand what is going on in the country.

Meanwhile, Chakwera has finished answering questions and Speaker of Parliament Gotani Hara has suspended the deliberations to until Wednesday afternoon.
