Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera who was under fire over a claim that his administration has managed to create over 900, 000 jobs in a period of two years, has come after the critics.

On February 3, 2022 while opening 2022-2023 parliament’s budget meeting in Lilongwe, Chakwera said his government is walking a right direction in as  far as fulfilling campaign promises he made prior to his election as the country’s head of state.

According to Chakwera, even though he has not reached the desired figures  and duration he set of 1 million jobs in one year, he claimed that Tonse Alliance has managed to create 997, 000 jobs a development which attracted public uproar demanding the head of state to provide evidence of his claims.

He was later backed by Minister of Information Gospel Kazako and Minister of Labor Vera Kamtukule but the populace was not convinced, hence demanding for more proof.

In his remarks today at Parliament where he is appearing to answer question from the members of parliament, Chakwera described the calls to provide evidence on the job creation mark as surprising.

According to Chakwera the same people who are calling for evidence of the figures did not question him when he said similar remarks to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) when he said Malawi had lost 600, 000 due to Coronavirus.

He then announced that his administration will create 240,000 jobs through special industrial zones.
