Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been temporarily closed with immediate effect for all students, Face of Malawi can reveal.

The students have been told to vacate the University’s campus by 6:00 pm today.

According to the University’s Registrar Alfred Danny Ulemu Chinombo, the decision was reached following a meeting the University held in reaction to the protests the students have been holding on the campus.

“This decision was made because the safe resumption and continuation of academic activities cannot be guaranteed on campus due to the illegal student protest that disrupted scheduled examination and results in staff harassment,” said Chinombo.

The management of the University has added that safety measures have already been put in place to ensure that the Campus is safe.

“however, staff members are advised to remain alert and cautious as students vacate the Campus.

Chinombo has since said that the way forward on remaining semester activities will be communicated in due course.

The students have been protesting after the management restricted some students with school fees balance to sit for examinations.
