The death toll from the impact of torrential rains in Salima district has risen to 3, while two other people are being treated for their injuries.

The downpour, which started on Monday evening, destroyed scores of houses and washed away a section of the M5 road towards Nkhotakota at Khombedza.

Salima District Council Spokesperson, Grace Kapatuka has disclosed that the injured has been taken to MAFCO Health Centre for treatment.

Kapatuka has further disclosed that the council will today be receiving over 1000 bags of maize for the affected households, from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA).

Meanwhile, the Salima District Council is still conducting an assessment to determine the exact number of people affected by rains.
