A Magistrate Court in Dowa has sentenced a Congolese national, Safari Ruhakanira, 54, to three years in prison with hard labour for breaking into a building and stealing property wealth millions of Kwacha.

The court heard through the State Prosecutor, Joseph Banda, that the crime was committed on the night of February 7th, 2022 at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in the district

The thief entered into Horeb Mountain of God’s Church where he stole two bass speakers, two solo speakers, two big speakers and two amplifier mixers all valued at K1.8m.

The man had pleaded not guilty to the charges but the state paraded four witnesses to prove its case.

Magistrate Amran Phiri said the three-year jail term was a warning to would-be offenders.

Ruhakanira comes from South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
