The Deputy Mayor for Mzuzu City Councillor Tone Mwenitete of Mzilawayingwe Ward has defected to Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Councillor Mwenitete says he has joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) because of the sound policies of the party.

“I am not coaxed or bought but I want a party where one can freely and peacefully co-exist with other members,” said Councillor Mwenitete.

MCP Regional Chairman for the North, Joseph Chavula, says the coming of the Deputy Mayor is one of the best political catches in Mzuzu City.

“I am very happy. The position of a Deputy Mayor is highly respected in our society. So this means people are having confidence in the leadership of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera,” explained Chavula.

Another councilor who has joined MCP is an independent councilor for Zolozolo West, Peterkins Mwale, who said he is convinced with development projects taking place in his ward.

District Chairperson for Mzuzu City, Franklin Hara, advised the members to always observe discipline to enhance the party’s operations.
