Following what is being alleged as incompetence in handling the recruitment of Henry Kachaje as CEO of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament (PAC) has summoned board members of Mera for a hearing over the matter.

According to Joyce Chitsulo, Chairperson of PAC, the committee will hear the side of the story of the board members from Saturday to Sunday this week in Blantyre.

The development comes as the government has asked the PAC to approve the firing of Mera’s board.

“You cannot remove someone from a position without hearing them. If the committee finds that the board indeed did not follow the procedures, it will not hesitate but to approve their firing but if it finds that they did nothing wrong, we will reject it,” said Chitsulo.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors will appear before PAC this coming Saturday and Sunday.
