Malawi Government has confirmed that a Malawian female student has been stuck in Ukraine following an invasion by Russia.

Malawi’s Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson John Kabaghe said the student is in need of urgent evacuation and efforts are being made to ensure that she is sent to a safe place.

According to Kabaghe, Malawian mission in Berlin, Germany, is working on assisting the student gain safe passage to Poland from where she will fly back home.

Reports indicate that the student started to move with her colleagues disregarding the advise by the Ukrainian government which asked them not to because the situation was volatile.

Kabaghe added that government is  monitoring the situation to establish if more Malawians are stuck in the invaded eastern-Europe country.
