Relations of late Orton Chirwa who played a role in the fight against colonial rule have commended government for its plan to construct him a befitting mausoleum.

Late Orton Chirwa’s nieces, Esnart Bulukutu Chirwa and Dawira Chirwa say the tomb where their uncle was buried does not befit his legacy as compared to his contribution to the country’s independence.

Group village Head Chikondawanga concurred with the two saying the mausoleum will not only be an honour to the family but also to Nkata Bay residents as it will help preserve their history.

Human Resource Officer for Nkhata Bay district council, Daniel Chizizi says Late Chirwa’s mausoleum will create employment for others in the tourism sector and beautify the district.

Minister of Tourism and culture, Michael Usi on Thursday emphasised on government’s plan to construct an attractive mausoleum that will not only befit the legacy of late Orton Chirwa but also attract tourism.
