Police in Mzimba district have on Saturday arrested two FDH Bank Agency Officers on suspicion that they had a hand in the armed robbery that happened at the branch on Saturday.
The two have been identified as Foster Chikondi Maluwa and Newton Vilimbewe.
It is reported that the bank lost k109,121,910.03 to the attack.
Brief facts from the Mzimba Police station states that despite being an off day on Saturday, Maluwa and his accomplice opted to open the bank for operations.
A few minutes after Maluwa and Vilimbewe opened the bank, two unidentified men came into the bank yard on a motor vehicle registration number BZ4256 (Honda Freed).
One was dressed in FDH T-Shirt and a cap.
They knocked on the bank boor and the agency officers opened for him.
“Soon, he entered the banking hall, he [Maluwa] was threatened with something like a pistol. They [Maluwa and Vilimbewe] were forced to open the cash cheese and packed cash into the bags and loaded it into the vehicle. The two were after that tied both hands with linya.”
“Matter was reported to police who visited the scene. Foul play suspected and the bank officers have been arrested for further investigations,” reads the police report.
However, the two have not yet been charged.
Maluwa hails from Ndala Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chilumbu in Mulanje while Vilimbewe comes from Kasezi Village in T/A Chikulamayembe in Mzimba.
Meanwhile, the FDH Bank Management has advised its customers that operations at the service center will run normally on Monday, February 28, 2022, as police continue with the investigations.
