Maintenance works at Matunkha area on the Rumphi Bolero Road is expected to be completed by close of business today.

Rumphi District Director of Public Works, Mathias Nundwe, has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

Nundwe said the road has been cut off due to the heavy down pour last night resulting into the small curvets failure to accommodate huge volume of water forcing a spill over that led to a wash away of the carriage way.

“The cause of the damage is due to excess run off water. The size of the 600mm concrete diameter rings installed could not hold the huge volumes of water forcing a spill over leading to a wash away of the carriage way,” said Nundwe.

The Rumphi Bolero Road was constructed some two years ago.
